Sheila Fleet > Fort Augustus Abbey

Fort Augustus Abbey is on the site of an old military fort, which was named after William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland. The monks arrived in 1876 and by 1878 had transformed a place of war into a place of prayer, serenity and calm. The Abbey finally closed in 1999, however the Abbey cross was inspired from window details.
