This collection is based around an 8th century penannular brooch found in a Norse grave at Pierowall on the island of Westray in Orkney. The brooch is decorated with interlace, an intertwining pattern of cords. Interlace, symobolising eternity having no beginning and no ending featured on metalwork, sculpted stone and illuminated manuscripts of the the 6th, 7th and 8th centuries.
