Skye

'Skye Alpine Pass'
Above and below is the road over from Staffin to Uig, we actually stayed the night in Portree, so this was the next day. It is tempting to get back on and see the next great bit, but sometimes it is best to get off and take it in, it is a holiday after all.

In May we had a long spell of glorious weather (May is a great Month, everything is quiet and the roads are free of traffic. Weather tip: if the winds are from the east in May the West will be dry, regardless of the weather forecast.), any way, I had never been to Skye so I took advantage of the glorious weather and Billy and I headed up to Skye via the Kyle of Lochalsh, see route below.

You simply have to visit Skye, geared for Tourism and with the History to match, it is also a haven for bikes, you will have majestic sweeping roads all to yourself (and the sheep - careful!).

There are plenty of B&B's with some that even have a 'Bike's Welcome' sign outside as well. Not only is the Island great but getting there is a joy as well, you will love the Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh road, great views and fast sweepers.

Try and get to the North of the Island, Dunvegan Castle is good to visit, with a superb road back to Broadford and the Skye Bridge.

Billy checking to see if his helmet is there!

My great friend Billy, Oh No! my helmet!

2 great bikes for the journey, the Pan and the R1100RT, they just eat miles. Oh and eat breakfast at the Cluny Inn.

Above is the route we took, the road from Invergarry to the Kyle of Lochalsh is brilliant, especially around the Cluny Inn. Wish we had longer.
