Good tours

Glencoe Loop

Glencoe Loop

This is probably the number 1 tour from the area, the trip through Glencoe. I prefer going in a clockwise direction, but do leave plenty of time as you will have numerous photo opportunities. Aim for lunch at the Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum, they have a hard standing for bikes, and the food is good too. The road is very fast but it has a couple of tight sections that appear on you quite quickly. Also it is a haven for walkers and climbers, so the car parks (large lay-bys) can be busy with people walking back to their cars and crossing the road.

Acharacle Loop

This should be done at a relaxed pace as the road is not as good but the scenery is outstanding. You head over on a small ferry at Corran. Again I prefer the clockwise loop. Make a stop at Salen and also further on at Glenfinnan, which is Scottish History personified but also very picturesque. Fort William has the only MacDonalds in the area (next to the Safeway superstore), if you need a fix. You should also consider a trip up in the gondola (as in skiing) to Aonach Mhor which is beside Ben Nevis, good cafe and views. It is about 5 miles north of Fort William so you will pass it.

That should do for a weekend trip!

Acharacle Loop

I have ridden these roads for pleasure, never thinking that they would end up on a website. During the Summer I will photograph the good bits and make some notes, so I can pass them on to you!

The maps are taken from Microsoft Autoroute Express Europe 2000, I fully acknowledge Microsoft's copyright, and can only advise it is a superb program for route planning.
